The Task Force determined the following phases for their work:

• Research – Gather information about alternative models, resource development, ecumenical alternatives, etc.;
• Data Collation – Go through the results of the research and start building models;
• Test alternatives – Talking with principal persons from other dioceses, denominations, etc., to clarify options;
• Formulate Recommendations – Short-term, mid-term, and long-term alternatives are on the table. Include steps for implementation, calendar, resources needed, etc.
• Present Recommendations – Diocesan Convention and Council

Timelines are that August is to be research month, September to be collation of data. A late September report will be e-mailed to Council. A report to Convention will be discussed and designed at the September 1, Task Force meeting.

The Task Force began its work by brainstorming and refining a list of the functions of a diocese. That will be supplemented by input from diocesan clergy at a Collegium, the reports of the Missional Renaissance interviews, the report by Lee Kiefer and Ivor Hughes, and any input from the weblog. In further discussion, all agreed that everything is on the table – finances, alternative models, staffing considerations, etc.

The Task Force is currently researching what other dioceses, denominations, etc., have done in similar situations. That research will be mostly complete by September 1.
